Baritone David Debono will be giving an inspiring recital at a lunchtime concert which is to be held at the Oratory of St. Francis on Tuesday 17th November 2015 at 12:30pm.
The recital will focus on the European classical arias that are world famous. The romantic repertoire covers songs from Mozarts Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro, as well as others such as Griegs Ich liebe dich and Tostis Ideale.
The programme includes Schuberts Nacht und trauma, Donizettis Come Paride Vezzoso from Elisir dAmore, Tchaikovskys None but the Lonely Heart and Strauss Allerseelen, amongst others.
Baritone David Debono started his vocal studies at the age of eighteen under Maestro Brian Cefai and during the last five years he continued to further his studies under the Bulgarian soprano Andriana Yordanova. He performed in a number of productions including Masquerades Christmas Pantomime Aladdin, as a choir member in the operas "Aleko" by Rachmaninov and "Clemenza di Tito" by Mozart (BOV Opera Festivals), two operas by Britten: The Little Sweep and Noahs Flood and Verdi's "Rigoletto" apart from many small recitals and concerts.
The lunchtime concerts are aimed at giving a platform to local and foreign artists and, it gives the opportunity for the audience to experience the charming oratory. The oratory has an interesting history as before the main church was enlarged in the beginning of the 20th Century, the large chamber was used as the refectory for the religious community. It was then transformed into an oratory, adorned by magnificent baroque paintings, a magnificent gilded altarpiece and original monks benches.
The events are fund raising events for the Franciscan Church, which is undergoing extensive structural restoration. Tickets for the lunchtime concerts, costing 8 euro, can be obtained from the venue itself half an hour before the concert begins. For more details phone 7968 0952 or email: baroccomalta@gmail
