Soprano Ruth Casingena takes to the stage to promise the audience tantalizing moments of enjoyment in a world of romance and music. She will sing about love as portrayed in operatic arias in a lunchtime concert at St. Augustine Monastery, in Old Bakery Street, on Tuesday 5th June 2018 at 12 noon.
The soprano will be singing coquettish excerpts from Mozarts The Marriage of Figaro, Puccinis La Boheme and Lehars song Meine Lippen Sie Kussen So Heiss. Ramona Zammit Formosa who will accompany the soprano on the piano, will also play mellifluous piano music, such as Cimarosas Sonata in G, Chopins Mazurka in Bb, and Fantasy on a Hungarian Folk Song, amongst others.
Ruth Sammut Casingena OSJ F.T.C.L. L.R.S.M. L.T.C.L. Dip. Musicology (MELIT), trained in vocal and pianistic studies at De Singel Conservatory in Antwerp, Belgium.
Mum, performing artiste and music tutor, Fellow of the Trinity College of Music (London), Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music (London) and graduate in musicology from the University of Malta, Ruth furthered her vocal and pianistic studies at De Singel Conservatory in Antwerp, Belgium.
Further to operatic roles in Nicolo` Isouard`s Joconde and Jeannot et Colin, lead soprano in G.F. Handel`s Messiah, Ruth has enjoyed a versatile career, played principal roles in the operettas Cin-ci-La, Il Paese dei Campanelli, La Scugnizza, La Vedova Allegra, the musicals Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Slice of Saturday Night, as well as Carlo Goldonis play La Vedova Scaltra.
Especially well known for her concert work, namely operatic, sacred, piano and chamber music, Ruth has performed locally as well as in Portugal, Wales, London, Belgium and Vienna. Amongst her most recent artistic highlights, she has been special guest soprano to Elca and Ferramoda events at Le Meridien, Hilton, Excelsior, Radisson and the Mediterranean Conference Centre, has premiered the performance of Federico Gozellino`s song cycle Metro` de La Vie during the Gaulitanus Festival in Gozo, has performed with tenor Frate Alessandro in concert, with the Malta Philharmonic as part of Classics under the Stars at Girgenti Palace, landed the role of Countess in W.A. Mozarts opera Le Nozze di Figaro staged at the Manoel Theatre (2017) and has recently sang in concert with Mro. Vincenzo Sorrentino, orchestral director to San Remo, Rai and Mediaset. Her latest production featured herself together with nineteen performers from her studio and special guests during a Musico-Literary Evening at Palazzo de La Salle, Valletta.
Ruth, a Dame of the Knights of the Order of St. John, is a committed music tutor, produces and directs artistic events mostly in aid of charity, created and was the music co-ordinator and choir director of Vocal Aid for three consecutive years, has been involved in broadcasting, film and television productions, landing major and lead roles in the TV Serials Ghada Jisbah Ukoll, QalbinNies, Pupi, The Inheritance, Tmien Nota and D.R.E.A.M.S. and has represented Malta during the Oralites Project for Mediterranean countries, where she premiered her own compositions.
She currently trains with vocal coach Denise Mulholland and owes much of her musical experience to her mentor and piano professor Mro. Pawlu Grech.
After the concert, visitors have the opportunity to appreciate a free guided tour of the interesting chambers of the monastery which are adorned with beautiful and historical sacred ornaments.
