Dynamic duo Silvio Zammit and Ramona Zammit Formosa will open the season of lunchtime concerts with a flute and piano performance at St. Augustine Monastery on Tuesday 2nd of October 2018 at 12 noon. The concert season which stretches out until June, envisages the participation of diverse local and foreign professional musicians and artists.
The colourful and flamboyant programme presents an eclectic, lively music to match classic music lovers taste buds! The flute and piano duo will perform the 19th century English prolific composer John William Harmstons Cantabile and Allegretto and Polish composer Chopins Theme and variations on Rossinis Cenerentola. The repertoire ensues with one of Maltas best composers Carmelo Pace with his Morceau Lyrique which is a piano solo. Furthermore, the programme takes a playful turn with Debussys Golliwog's Cakewalk which was arranged for flute and piano by S. Zammit. The programme concludes with two dances: Moszkowskis Spanish Dance and Granados Rondalla Aragonese.
Silvio and Ramona Zammit have been active as a duo for the past 20 years. They are both Fellows of the London College of Music and teach music in the Malta School of Music in Hamrun. Particularly due to the Ramonas versatility on the piano, flute and harpsichord, the duo can perform in the different combinations of instruments.
During 1978-2001, Silvio was a member of the National Orchestra of Malta. Currently he follows his professional career as a teacher and freelance soloist.
In 1998, the duo won the Lloyd Weber medal for distinction in interpretation. They have performed in various solo and chamber recitals in the U.S.A., Italy, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Portugal, Bulgaria and England.
They have also recorded CDs of Maltese music by Pace and Camilleri. In collaboration with Gukulari Ensemble, they have also recorded CDs of 18th and 19th century music.
Several Maltese composers have dedicated works to the duo. Their extensive repertoire ranges from the baroque to the contemporary.
