Emerging talented singer Marisa Galea will be making her debut at the lunchtime concerts with a delightful performance of operatic and operetta arias. Charming Songs will be performed at St Augustine, Old Bakery Street, Valletta on the 30th of October 2018 at 12 noon.
The soprano will be performing a varied repertoire of eclectic arias from the Baroque to the Bel Canto. The programme spotlights romantic songs such as Gaetano Donizettis Ah Tardi Troppo from his opera Linda da Chamounix and the dramatic Piangero la sorte mia, an excerpt from George Fredric Handels Giulio Cesare. Moreover, the programme includes a very interesting aria The Rose and the Nightingale which is subtitled Eastern Song, coming from Rimsky-Korsakovs opera, Sadko. The touch of Eastern flavour continues with Sergei Rachmaninoff Zdes' khorosho. The programme ends with a charming song by Jacques Offenbach Les oiseaux dans la charmille from Les Contes d' Hoffmann. Finally, the programme will be further enhanced with the piano solos performed by pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa who will be playing Schuberts Impromptu in A-flat and Glinkas The Prayer.
After the concert, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy a free guided tour of the remarkable monastery museum which showcases its striking, historical and sacred ornaments in the fascinating monastic chambers.
