Christabelle Vella and Celine Abela, two sopranos and pianist John Anthony Fsadni will take the stage to present a piano and vocal recital at St. Augustine Monastery in Old Bakery Street, Valletta on Tuesday 20 November 2018 at 12 noon.
The recital called Il mio dolce Ardor will feature excerpts from Handels Messiah and Haydns Die Schopfung, Caccinis Ave Maria, and romantic songs by Alessandro Scarlatti, Gluck and Paisiello. John Anthony Fsadni will also play the first movement of Jan Vaclav Voriseks Sonata in Bb minor Opus 20.
Soprano Celine Abela began her musical studies as a pianist with Elizabeth Leonardi, achieving her ABRSM grade 8 certification. She started her vocal studies in 2013 with Lydia Caruana and gave her first public performance was at the Malta Society of Arts in 2015.
Under the direction of Maestro Philip Walsh, Celine has performed as a chorus member in Teatru Manoel Youth Opera Orpheus in the Underworld directed by Brock Roberts and Patience directed by Tama Matheson. She was also an active member of TMYO for the 2016/17 season, under the tutorship of Miriam Cauchi, Christopher Gatt and Tom Armitage.
Celine has been awarded first place in the Classical Girls category of both the 2016 and 2017 Maltese Islands Festival. She has also given her debut solo performance at St.Francis church oratory with a programme highlighting Italian art songs from the 17th and 18th century. Celine is currently reading Law at the University of Malta.
Christabelle Vella was involved with Scuola Cantorum Jubilate for many years, singing solo parts both locally and abroad. She studied voice with Claire Massa and is now continuing her studies with Ms Lydia Caruana, under whose vocal direction, she has placed second in the Art song section of the Maltese Islands Festival for two consecutive years. Vella has participated in various operatic recitals and productions, including The Gondoliers, Joseph and the amazing technicolour dreamcoat and Patience. This year she has participated in Corto Maltese, a Teatru Manoel production. She is an active member of Vox Dulcis Chorale.
