Barocco Foundation is organizing a concert to celebrate the magnificent musical works of the Italian Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi. The Kalypso String Quartet will be performing some of the exuberant and sparkling music of the celebrated composer on the 25 of June at 8pm at the splendid Palazzo de Piro in Mdina.
The Italian Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi is one of the best-known composers of all time. He is recognized as being one of the greatest Baroque composers his influence during his lifetime was widespread over Europe. Vivaldi is known mainly for composing instrumental concertos, especially for the violin, as well as sacred choral works and over forty operas. His best known work is a series of violin concertos known as The Four Seasons.
The Kalypso String Quartet, who will be performing at this concert, is a chamber music ensemble founded in Malta in 2011. Its repertoire ranges from the baroque period to contemporary music. All its members are currently musicians with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. The ensemble has performed with success in prestigious festivals such as the Bir Miftuh International Music Festival and the Victoria International Music Festival in Gozo. Its members are Klara Nazaj (violin), Giulia Tavano (violin), Ina Georgieva (viola) and Akos Kertesz (cello).
The programme will feature Vivaldis exuberant and flamboyant music as the Kalypso Ensemble will perform Sinfonia for strings in C Major, RV116, Concerto for strings in D major, RV121, Sinfonia for strings in D major, RV122 and also the Spring and Summer movements from his famed The Four Seasons.
The event is being organized by the Barocco Foundation with the collaboration of Palazzo de Piro Cultural Centre, with the support of the Bank of Valletta.
